Fear Tactics

Have you had an idea that was for sure a win, but because of fear of the unknown, you let the idea drift away? Or, you start to pursue the idea, but allow fear from the lens of others to halt your progress? Fear is a debilitating spirit. It is NOT something to play with. It attacks at times we are vulnerable and leaves us feeling stuck.

Procrastination, overthinking, and operating out of a performance mentality are all forms of fear tactics. Procrastination is an arrogant mindset which will leave you feeling overwhelmed because you take time for granted. Did you know that being overwhelmed leads to FEAR?, but one way to combat that is by making measurable goals. Prioritize what’s important first and work towards completing that. I am a visual learner and love color coded details, find a system that will work for you and kick procrastination to the curb. TRUST ME, IT’S NOT CUTE. I was the queen of it :-/. Now let’s get into overthinking….

I wonder if this makes sense? I should change this. This is stupid, let me just start over. How many of us have said something along those lines because we couldn’t stay out of our head? What is that about? What I have learned is the voice of our own criticism can ring louder than the voice of God. If you have misplaced identity of who God is and how He sees you, then you will start to function in a perfection based mindset. Overthinking is a form of perfectionism and rejection. We can’t be perfected in the image of God and ourselves at the same time. We must learn to let go of what we can’t control and focus on who God’s called us to be.

The last tactic I want to cover in this post is, performance based fear. Anytime you find yourself doing ANYTHING for the praise of man, you have misplaced the identity God has given you. This is a scheme and fear is in it! It is okay to get feedback, and even take the advise of trusted voices around you, but don’t change your person to suit the idea of another. We are fearfully and wonderfully made. We each offer a uniqueness that only we can fulfill, but if we don’t silence the voice of the inner me and enemy, we will suffer in a life of fear. We don’t have to live in fear!

1 John 4:18- There is no fear in love (dread does not exist). But perfect love drives out fear, because fear involves torment or punishment, so the one who is afraid (of God’s judgment) is not perfected in love (has not grown into a sufficient understanding of God’s love).
